Freesat

Freesat is a non-subscription service that uses a satellite dish to pick up the digital signal. With Freesat you have access to around 100 digital TV channels and also HD (High Definition) channels.

Standard Installation of this service is around £80 with receiver boxes costing anywhere between £68 for an entry level model up to £245 for a high spec model with HD and recording capabilities.

BT Vision

BT Vision runs in conjunction with BT Total Broadband services when you can expect to receive more than 40 freeview channels in addition to on-demand TV, films, sport and music on either a subscription service or pay-per-view service.

You can have access to this service with BT Total Broadband which costs from around £15 a month or via subscription from about £7 a month for the basic package. The BT Vision box can record 80 hours of digital TV.

Sky HD

Sky HD is the premium offering from Sky TV which broadcasts channels in High Definition for incredible picture quality (If you have a TV capable of displaying HD). You can expect to receive nearly 400 channels depending on the subscription package you choose.

Access to Sky HD costs anything from £28 per month for the basic HD package up to £58 per month for the full package with a standard setup fee of £30.

Virgin Media

Virgin Media is a subscription service that runs in conjunction with other offerings from the company such as phone and broadband. With this service, you will be able to view up to 160 digital TV channels

Expect to pay up to around 25 pounds per month for the service, in addition to a £30 setup fee and £150 for a receiver box with a built in recorder.
